Integration of Network, Audio and Modem

The FM-56CNR Series provides greater flexibility in platform design for MB and OEMs. It offers a low-cost solution for implementing LAN, modem and audio subsystems that allow the PC-OEMs to benefit from the integration of different technologies/ features into Chipsets, motherboard SKU reduction, and lower the complexity of homologation process. The specification defines the CNR architecture for both standard and low-profile risers and includes electrical, mechanical, and thermal requirements of the riser interface.

Improvements over AMR:

  • No need to substitute a PCI slot for a riser card slot
  • Reversed component side allows PCI slot sharing. Shares same chassis backplane opening
  • Single RJ-11 connection for all phone line technologies
  • Multiple interfaces for scaleable comm. functions

Configuration Options:

  • Modem + HomePNA
  • Modem Only
  • Modem + 10/100Mbps Ethernet
  • AC-3 + Modem
  • AC-3 Only

Features:

  • CNR Version 1.0 interface
  • Low-cost solution for implementing LAN, modem, and audio subsystems.
  • Allows you to separate certification requirements from the motherboard
    Plug-and-Play Support
  • Windows 95/98/NT/2000 compatible.

Power management and power saving features:

  • Fully compliant with the Network device class power management specification revision 1.0 and the Communication device class power management specification under the OnNow architecture for Microsoft's PC99 Hardware design Guide
  • Supports all wake-up events defined in the Network Device Class Power Management Specification Revision 1.0
  • Fully compliant with the ACPI specification revision 1.0
  • Fully compliant with the PCI Bus Power Management Interface Specification Revision 1.0
